Both products are fresh cheeses, and they come from Italy, but the Mozzarella and Burrata have great differences that today we are going to show you, so that you know how to distinguish them. Despite having a similar appearance, texture and taste, they are two products that have nothing to do with each other.
Main differences between Mozzarella and Burrata
A priori we can consider Burrata as the sister of Mozzarella. With the latter we can make the former, but the Burrata has now become a renowned product. With a different personality to that of Mozzarella, these are the main differences:
- Creaminess: The word Burrata comes from the Italian “Burro” which in Spanish means butter. The creaminess and texture of the butter is reminiscent of Burrata and is one of the main differences compared to Mozzarella.
- Preparation: Despite being visually similar products, the Mozzarella is made entirely with spun pasta. On the other hand, the Burrata contains pasta spun only on the outside, as if it were a casing. Inside, softer and creamier, it is contained by the famous stracciatella (frayed yarn paste mixed with cream)
- Geographical location: You will be able to find a multitude of companies that make these products all over the world. Mozzarella originally comes from the Italian region of Campania. Instead, Burrata comes from the eastern region of Apulia.
- Presentation: The Burrata will be found in small bags, while the Mozzarella, the presentation catalog is more varied: spheres of different sizes, blocks, slices, etc. On the plate, the Burrata will melt when opened, while the Mozzarella will maintain its consistency.
- Accompaniment: With its creaminess and distinguished flavor, Burrata does not need accompaniment. Straighten it with a little olive oil and some spices, and you can enjoy a great dairy product. Mozzarella, having a more neutral flavor, is ideal to add to salads, pizzas, toasts, etc.
